Why has my downloaded ZIP Folder been renamed?

When you download documents in Disclosure Ready, they are provided in a ZIP file. To ensure the ZIP can be opened correctly on Windows, we apply limits to folder and file name lengths.

Windows has a maximum file path length of 260 characters. This limit includes both the location where you extract the ZIP on your computer and the full folder and file names inside the ZIP. While we cannot control where you choose to extract the ZIP, we do control how long names are inside it.

To avoid extraction issues, we reserve part of the path length for your computer’s folder structure (such as C:\Users\Username\Downloads) and limit the remaining length used by the ZIP file name and its contents. As a result, long folder names and document names may be shortened in the download.

If shortening names results in duplicates, we automatically add a numeric suffix, for example Witness and Witness~1, or Document.docx and Document~1.docx. This ensures all files are included and nothing is overwritten.

If you experience any issues extracting a ZIP file, we recommend extracting it closer to the root of your drive, such as C:\Temp.
